Gordon Stevenson – The Alumni of Belmont House School

3rd Oct 2025

As we approach our centenary year at Belmont House School, we wanted to look back, and reconnect with former pupils, near and far. Here we have seven thoughtful questions that we ask our alumni focusing on their lives, successes, and the school’s influence.

  • Name: Gordon Stevenson
  • Time period as a pupil at Belmont House: 14 years at Belmont (1992-2006)
  • Current Occupation: Co-Founder Turntable Spirts/Director Lighthouse Spirits with my brother Alastair

How did your time at Belmont House School shape your career path?
I developed so many key skills that I use every day. At school I never what I wanted to do and Belmont was very good at keeping my ideas open.

Can you share a key moment or memory from your time at Belmont that had a lasting impact on you?
For me sport is a huge part of my life and having a very successful 1st XV  Rugby team was very rewarding. Being competitive against the “big” schools was a great confidence booster.

What skills or lessons learned at Belmont have been most valuable in your professional life?
The one that comes to me first was respect. Being such a small and agile school gave me the opportunity to interact with students and teachers from a wide variety of backgrounds. This helped from a social prospective and it is important in my job now.

In what ways did Belmont House School’s community or culture contribute to your personal growth?Relationship building, inclusivity and respect have all helped my growth particularly in my current role where I speak to people all over the world on a regular basis.

Can you describe how Belmont’s teachers or extracurricular activities helped shape your future ambitions?
I built very strong relationships with teachers and still value these today. I also participated in many sports as possible which I continued after school. This helped me meet a lot of people and has greatly influenced my career path.

What advice would you give to current Belmont students who want to follow a similar path to yours?
Keep your options open and try to get as much experience as possible, you never know what might happen.

Looking back, how do you feel Belmont House School prepared you for the challenges and opportunities you’ve faced in life?
I think that Belmont really helped develop a wide range of skills for me that has opened very many doors. I always look back on my time at school and I feel I gained a great platform to grow.
