National Galleries Success

21st Aug 2019

On Saturday 22nd June, Ms. McDonald and Miss Kiffer accompanied Transitus pupils Ellie and Matthew to the National Galleries of Scotland Art Competition award ceremony, where Ellie was awarded a Special Merit award in the ‘Spark, Flicker, Flame’ category. Our second winner, Kartike of Senior One, was unable to attend on the day, and Ellie accepted the Special Merit award on his behalf for his fantastic photographic entry for the ‘Drip, Pour, Splash, Freeze’ category. Both artworks are amazing; the Art Department is extremely proud of our award-winning artists!

The ceremony was held in the beautiful Dean Church, before the party made their way across to The National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern One) for the winners to be photographed beside their work. Ellie was also interviewed for the Galleries’ marketing department by a media company at the gallery, and spoke superbly to the interviewers.

All the winning work will be exhibited in Modern One until 22nd September, being seen by thousands of visitors from around the world! The exhibition will then go on tour to Glasgow Royal Concert Hall until 2nd January 2020, and finally to Borders General Hospital until 30th April 2020. All winning artists also have their work in a calendar which will be sold in the gift shops of the National Galleries, as well as being sent to every school in Scotland! Very well done, Kartike and Ellie.
