Gold Expedition Success

26th Aug 2019

Between the 15th and 18th August, four of the school’s senior pupils undertook their challenging DofE Gold Assessment expedition in the Lowther Hills. With three wild camps in remote countryside, the team trekked their way around Leadhills, Wanlockhead, (where they had a tour of the mining museum), Mennock Pass, East Mount Lowther Hill, (over 2000ft) and a 12 km trek on day four in poor weather to Lettershaws.

The supervising staff were able to follow their progress using a new tracker hired to try it out. This was a real success and especially useful on the very remote day three when the group were in very steep terrain.

The group’s assessor, Mr James Patterson asked them a series of questions at the end of day four and seemed to be impressed with the display of teamwork, resilience and attitude that all four had shown throughout the expedition. The group still need to send off their presentation linked to their aims, but this is really a formality.

Very well done to the team of Alex, Rory, Struan and Jackie.
