A group of 5 brave and well-prepared pupils headed off in the school minibus early on Friday to start their epic trek, their three-day Duke of Edinburgh – Silver Practice Expedition. There were several after school training sessions to make sure that the group knew their route as well as a refresher on the use of map and compass.
The team goal was to record a playlist of suitable tracks that reflected the mood of the team members.
Day one was from the Glencoe Mountain resort along the Old Road, now part of the West Highland Way. The rugged beauty of the Rannoch Moor could be seen as the group made their way towards Forest Lodge. A quick rendezvous with Mr Stevenson about 3 kms in afforded a quick check on position and location and the way forward. The group was well equipped for all outcomes, but the weather stayed calm, if cool and damp.
The next day brought torrential rain, as well as train cancellations. It was decided that we should do just a half day trek to Auch Farm from Bridge of Orchy and then return home. The weather wasn’t too bad, so the team made good progress and worked on their team aim.
An eventful journey resulted in an extra half hour adding to our journey time, but all went well.
A massive well done to all the members of the team; Manisha, Indra, Barnaby, Muhammad and Kamryn!
