17th Nov 2017
On Friday 10th November a dozen Senior 3 pupils and three members of staff headed for our annual Skills weekend at Callander Hostel.
The weather for the whole weekend was terrific. The mix of a sharp frost and bright sun was simply superb. The trek high above Loch Venachar was tackled gamely by all pupils. A number of important map and compass skills were looked at including scale, setting the map, finding North, symbols, contours and speed and pacing.
Throughout the weekend all pupils were attentive and punctual for all activities and we managed to get through a huge amount of useful material for their practice expedition, including risk assessment, what the Duke of Edinburgh is all about and what benefits it might bring you. Food was also covered as well as the safe use of stoves.
Well done to all pupils who took part and to the staff who gave up their time. It was an excellent weekend.
