The Music Department offers an oasis of creativity for pupils of all ages. Our overall philosophy is to create, perform and appreciate music in class time and through extra-curricular activity. We aim to empower our students with the skills and knowledge that music provides for a lifelong learning experience that begins in nursery. We encourage pupils to be active in the decision making process for course work and groups, and encourage enterprise activity. “Music is a powerful and universal form of communication which makes a significant contribution to the curriculum through providing distinctive opportunities to develop pupils’ imagination, expression and aesthetic judgement.”
We seek to promote this vision by exposing our pupils to a variety of music making activities and do so through vibrant classroom experiences and in providing a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
A host of extra-curricular activities e.g. choirs, orchestras, Guitar Club, Samba Band, Jazz Band, String Group, provide a wealth of experiences that bring a supplementary dimension to an already fun packed curriculum - that of making music with other like-minded musicians.
The above groups combined with smaller groups and soloists, work towards a variety of events ranging from small recitals, community events, seasonal concerts and large scale musicals.
