Physical Education

Physical Education is an integral part of the education process. At Belmont House we aim:

to provide a diverse but balanced programme, which educates the child in a wide range of purposeful, meaningful and enjoyable activities
to develop physical skill, knowledge and understanding, in order that it be applied appropriately in a variety of contexts
to stimulate a positive attitude to sport, health and fitness which will continue into adult life
to develop confidence, co-operation and a healthy competitive spirit, by meeting challenges and solving problems
to increase awareness of one’s own, as well as others’ ability and limitations
to heighten awareness of safety procedures necessary to ensure a safe working environment.

From Junior 1 through to Senior 6 specialist staff deliver the Physical Education Programme at the core of which is Gymnastics, Movement, Dance, Trampolining, Games, Swimming, Athletics, Fitness Testing and a range of team sports.

Formal study of Physical Education is also offered. Practical activities and their related academic elements are studied in order to produce a high level of performance and advanced knowledge which lead to the appropriate award at National Qualifications at National 4, National 5 and Higher level.
