Pastoral Care and The Tutor System
While all members of staff have a pastoral role and are proactive in encouraging and motivating the pupils in their care, Junior School Class Teachers and Tutors in the Senior School have specific responsibilities in this area. We believe that the well-being and development of each pupil is crucial to the success of the School as a whole.
On joining the Senior School, a pupil is allocated to a Tutor and it is likely that they will remain with that member of staff throughout their time at the School. The relationship between pupil, parent and Tutor, therefore, fosters and grows - the Tutor becoming the normal initial point of contact with the School on most issues. Tutors exercise their responsibilities in a variety of ways. There are a number of timetabled, formal individual interviews during the course of the year, daily Tutor Group meetings and regular, informal discussions with individual pupils. At Tutor interviews, pupil and Tutor have the opportunity to discuss the former's achievements, whether academic, social or extra-curricular and, indeed, such discussions are not restricted to the confines of School. From discussions, strengths and weaknesses are highlighted and personal development targets set.
Through continual contact with parents by means of bi-annual Reports and Parent/Teacher Interview Evenings, regular telephone contact between the Junior School Class Teacher or Senior School Tutor and the home, you are kept fully informed of any issues that arise in your child's education. We believe that the educational process is a three-way partnership between the pupil, parents and the School and you are encouraged to play a full part in your child's education through regular contact with the School.
