Golfing opportunities

Gavin Wilson, of Senior 5, had the opportunity to play with the USJT [American Junior Tour Golf team] at St. Andrews over the summer. A number of matches and friendly ties were played over a seven-day period, including a round over the Old Course itself, and there were also coaching sessions with Steve North, who is Director of Coaching at St. Andrews. Gavin, pictured [left] with one of his American team mates, described the week as a "brilliant experience".

Gavin is one of a good number of capable and enthusiastic golfers throughout the School - we even have five Junior 3 boys who, like Gavin, are members of the local Whitecraigs Club. The School won the East Renfrewshire Rotary Club's Schools' Golf competition last summer and we are planning to further raise the profile of the game within Belmont next season through a number of matches with other schools and the re-introduction of our own internal championship.
