Senior School Eco-Committee - Update

Dear Parent/Guardian

The Senior School Eco-committee would like to highlight some of the provisions for recycling that we now have place at Belmont House and also ask if you can help us strive towards achieving the Eco-Schools Green Flag status.

We are now collecting empty toner and printer cartridges as well as old mobile phones as part of a Recycool and Generation Green initiative.  This ensures not only that these items are recycled but also raises money for the Eco-committee to use throughout the Senior School. Also for every mobile phone that is recycled Recycool have pledged to plant a tree on your behalf.  If you or any of your family, or even your place of work has any of these items, please don't hesitate to bring them in and we will gladly dispose of them for you.

Additionally, for the remainder of this term there is also a large Rag Bin located in the school car park, near to the bin shed. Any unwanted rags or old clothes can be deposited here which will then be subsequently sorted and either donated to those less fortunate than ourselves in developing countries or will be used in the rag trade. Rag collection bags are available from the school on request.

Furthermore, as the school is registered with the British Gas Generation Green reward scheme it means that our eco activities within the school can be registered and then acknowledged in the form of ‘green leaves' by Generation Green. The more green leaves we as a school can collect, the more rewards we can claim; for example more bins for the playground. By visiting the British Gas website; http://www.britishgas.co.uk/esr you can obtain an Energy Savers Report which allows you to understand your homes energy efficiency performance, cut your energy use and save money. You can also earn 100 Generation Green ‘green leaves' and donate them to Belmont House School in the process.

Lastly, as you will be aware Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons are issuing schools vouchers with your transaction and the Senior School are now collecting these. Some of the money we receive will be put towards buying equipment for our continued recycling in the school.

It is perhaps worth noting that recycling is not the only initiative that the Senior School eco-committee is involved with presently; we also are looking at ways to reduce energy uses in and around the school, we have regular crack downs on litter, the wormery converts some of the kitchen waste is into nutrient rich compost and this term sees the beginning of the Senior school Eco-garden.

Thank you in anticipation
