CHANGE FOR THE BETTER

Pupils participated in a non-uniform day on Friday 29th February in aid of the recent UNICEF Day for Change 2008 to fund water and sanitisation programmes in The Gambia, and were allowed to wear casual clothing in exchange for a £2 donation to the fundraising project.  Senior 1 pupil, Scott Woodhead, chose to wear his Barcelona football top, since the football club sponsors UNICEF and displays the logo prominently.  Scott commented: "I checked beforehand that I would be allowed to wear the top, but it did seem very appropriate in view of the UNICEF connection.  Almost all the pupils at School chose to take part in non-uniform day to help improve access to clean, safe water for pupils like ourselves living in The Gambia".

Gordon Parr, Depute Head with responsibility for Personal and Social Development at the School, organised the event. "Day for Change is an annual fundraising event for pupils and staff throughout the UK," he said.  "We are one of almost 3,000 schools taking part to raise funds for The Gambia this year.  As well as the fundraising aspect, it is also a good way for pupils to learn a little bit more about children of their own age living in other countries throughout the world."
