Extra Curricular
Beyond the Classroom
School is not just about what happens inside the classroom, vital as that is, and Sport and Extra-Curricular activities play a major part in every pupil's life at Belmont House School. The School strives for success in each and every area of education and pupils are encouraged to excel in academic subjects, outdoor education, drama, the arts and sports. A wide range of extra-curricular activities allows each pupil to expand their interests and opportunities, laying strong foundations for their future. We pride ourself in the well-rounded education pupils receive.
Physical Education is compulsory from J1 through to Senior 6 and there are a wide range of Extra-Curricular activities on offer such as the long established and extensive programme in:
- The Performing Arts - Choir, Orchestra, Debating, Public Speaking, Drama, Theatre visits, various individual instrumental opportunities (piano, violin, brass, guitar, bagpiping, percussion etc).
- Outdoor Education - The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme , Hillwalking, Canoeing, Climbing, Orienteering, Educational and Field Trips
- Astronomy
- Chess
- Sports - Rugby, Judo, Fencing, Tennis, Cricket, Athletics, Golf , Football, Swimming, Skiing and Volleyball. With the ever-increasing number of Girls attending Belmont House we are increasing the sporting syllabus to include a Trampolining Club, Basketball, Dance, Netball, and Hockey.
These provide the pupils with an enviable range of extra-curricular activities. Considerable success is achieved in a wide range of sports at both national and district levels, with pupils regularly gaining representative honours, and teams competing against other schools in a variety of sports.
In addition, some of our pupils have achieved national success outwith our traditional School-based sporting endeavours such as Showjumping and Hockey.
Visits to Theatres, Art Galleries, excursions, school trips to places of interest, often connected with project work are regularly arranged.
