Nursery Information

The Nursery is managed by two experienced members of staff - Miss Finlay and Miss MacFarlane.  It is an integral part of the School and all Nursery pupils feel that they belong to Belmont House and are important members of the School community.  The Nursery is very flexible in its approach and children can attend morning only sessions (08.45 - 12.00), afternoon only sessions (12.00 - 15.15), or all day sessions (08.45 - 15.15).

Curriculum Framework

Belmont House Nursery is in a unique and enviable position, as part of a whole school, to engage in preparation for ‘A Curriculum for Excellence'.  Our programme is structured to suit the children's individual requirements. It is our aim to encourage each child to progress at his/her own pace in the quest for personal development and excellence. To this end we endeavour to develop:

  • Emotional, personal, and social development.
  • Communication and language.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world.
  • Expressive and aesthetic development.
  • Physical development and movement.

All pupils will follow the above curriculum, as indicated by the Scottish Office in their guidelines, "A Curriculum Framework for Children aged 3 to 5".

Links with Home

There is a close liaison between home and the Nursery. Parents meet and talk to the Nursery staff daily when delivering and collecting their children, giving the opportunity to discuss any problems as they occur. Consequently, there is a better knowledge and understanding of each child.  Monthly updates are sent home so that parents are kept informed as to the curricular activities and their child's progress.

Social Activities

In addition to participating in a number of whole School and also Junior School events, Nursery pupils have a Christmas Show and Party in December and a Mini-Sports in June, with a final Diploma Presentation, complete with musical entertainment at the end of the school year. Nursery pupils also enjoy a number of organised outings throughout the year.
